BOOOOOOOM blog’s latest ‘Made of Imagination’ project featuring homemade instruments is the definition of nuts (but is simultaneously genius).
Browsing through suitcase guitars, watermelon pianos and fast-food-drum-sets takes me back to those rainy afternoons of tireless bottle-xylophones, fuel-tin-drums and lentil maracas with my little bro and sis.
Who needs cymbals when y’ gots pan lids?
Who needs guitars when y’ gots laggy bands and a clover pot?
Who needs a trumpet when y’ gots mum’s soup funnel?
But now, backed by MTV, playtime instrumentals have been transformed to into a delectable art form. No more the slap-dash battering of bins and bottles, this is competitive indie sculpture in action…

I say let’s bring back the banging of bins, jangling of pennies and shaking of beans, raise high the half-full water bottle, wine glass and steel spoon, bash with a flourish the chopping board, baking tin and trusty wok no longer the remit of the I NEED TO MAKE NOISE AND BURN ENERGYYYY pre-schoolers, but a genre to be elevated and taken full advantage of. After all, life’s all about making music, from everything, Stomp-style.
